AS I have loved you

Good afternoon everyone! This Rick I’m part of the My Emanuel Ministries!

Since I gave my life to God He has always had caring for the needy and helpless on my heart! I have been blessed to serve in two ministries besides church (Dalton Greater Works and Mercy’s Door Children’s Homes) At Dalton Greater Works we have a dining hall and a food pantry and a clothing ministry. The food pantry is “clients choice” meaning that the people choose their own food just like you would at a grocery store. The clothing ministry is the same way. The town I live in is the 2nd poorest city in the U.S! On the Tuesday night supper we average about 135 in the dining hall and about 30 families through the food pantry and about 35 through the clothing ministry. Mercy’s Door is the only faith based childrens home within 350 miles of our city! We have 2 boys homes and 1 girls home for ages 6 to 17  and an independent living home for ages 18 to 21! Both ministries were founded by individuals and have no state or local funding. Dalton Greater works was founded 20 years ago by giving an invitation to 6 homeless men in a local park. Now Dalton Greater Works serves about 500 or more people a week through various ways! (all glory to God!)

The reason I’m sharing this information is this……God’s word tells us to “Love our neighbors as ourselves” ( Matthew 22:39 The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.) these words are in red! I know how hard this is to do sometimes as is the question “who is my neighbor?” Well, if we are truly following God’s word EVERYONE is your neighbor! BUT, Jesus gives us another command which I think is even more powerful than this one! In John He tells us (John 13:34 “I give you a new command: Love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another.) These are in red also. Notice He says “I give you a new command!” Now folks we can’t OUTLOVE God so Jesus is telling us to love others AS He has loved us! This to me is pretty straightforward! I have witnessed many people serving at Great Works for the first time that just break when they witness how people are suffering in our community! Then I have overheard people talking about the new car they just purchased while handing someone the only meal they may have had in days! (not good) When we are serving, we must serve every person as if we were serving Jesus! (Matthew 25:40 “And the King will answer them, ‘I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’) Again …in  red! I can assure you that EVERY piece of clothing is inspected BEFORE it is put out to go to someone. We tell people that “If you wouldn’t give it to Jesus then don’t give it to us!” When you give a shirt to someone and say “God bless you” and it has a stain or hole in it you are saying “this is what God thinks about you!” A tattered shirt? NO! He loves us MUCH more than this! I have been told “well it’s better than nothing!” My reply? “Would you wear this to work or out with your family?” Probably not! When you donate time or money or anything folks make sure it is for God! We must serve from our hearts as if we are serving Jesus! We are the church! If Jesus was here now and you asked Him “where’s the church, He wouldn’t give you an address, He would point at You! It is time to LIVE SENT folks! It’s time not just to serve but serve the way Jesus commands us! Why? Let’s go back to John 13:34 and see what the next verse tells us! John 13:35 By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”) Because they will know that you are My Disciples! This should be our goal brothers and sisters! Make disciples! To me this all goes back to His command in Matthew 28  (Matthew 28:18-20 18 Then Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember,I am with you always, to the end of the age.” We can some up this in three words folks!

So who’s ready to Live Sent? I pray that many people take time to serve this year!

Thanks for reading and may our Lord and Savior bless you and keep you well!

I have posted some pictures of Dalton Greater Works, two are from a recent dinner (notice the children) and one is from our toy drive when over 100 families got to pick out 3 toys per child for Christmas and then they were wrapped for them! People walked for 20 miles to receive the toys! One lady slept at the front doors!

We have 2 shirt/hoodie drives going on now to support  Dalton Greater Works. EVERY single dollar goes to the ministry! You can check out or purchase the shirts at the links below
