Finding Joy in Jesus

When you first read 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 you might think: uh… what? In three short reminders we are called to a radically different way of living in Jesus than the one that comes naturally. Without Jesus we would never be able to live our lives this way…

Joy is a fruit of the Spirit. Every follower of Jesus has the ability to experience increasing joy in Jesus. Because of our close relationship to God in Christ we can pray any where, any time, without barriers. Lastly, we can learn to trust God no matter what we are facing.

If you haven’t arrived here yet, don’t worry… neither have I. But by God’s grace I grow more consistent as my relationship with God grows more intimate. Don’t forget: God will finish what He has started (Philippians 1:6).

Living and Loving Like Jesus

Ghandi was reported as saying: “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” Although I have no idea if Ghandi said this, the truth is quite revealing of a larger problem. Why do some call Jesus Lord, but aren’t doing what He commanded? (Luke 6:46)

Some simply profound reminders from Scripture:
-Do everything in love to everyone (1 Corinthians 16:14)
-The fruit of the Spirit that lives in every follower of Jesus is peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self control (Galatians 5:22-23)
-God is love (1 John 4:8)
-By our love for one another all the world will know we are the true disciples of Jesus (John 13:35)

Question… are you just hearing the word of God? Or… are you living it?

Jesus is God

I’m not sure what you’ve heard or what you’ve been taught, but Jesus is God. God didn’t simply send some lesser created being into creation to save you, He left nothing to chance. Jesus this the image of the invisible God, the perfect essence and exact representation of the Father. This means that the God of universe stooped down into time, the Creator entered His creation to do what only God could: save you.

The unchanging nature of God should help us to understand who He is. God’s love is absolute and He has given everything so we could be forgiven and free. When Jesus died on the cross He made a way where there was no way. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and the only way to forgiveness, redemption, and restoration (John 14:6).

My prayer for you and I today is that the truth of God’s love would constantly be at the forefront of our minds and thought. May everything we do be to point others to this great salvation and love. May we remember that if we reject such a great gift of salvation through Jesus that we would all be desperately lost.
