Take Up Your Cross

As a follower of Jesus, I surrendered control of my life to my Lord. Here in His presence I experience the power to become the husband, dad, and person He created me to be. Yes there are things Jesus has called me to surrender but each time I do He shows me what I thought I needed to have life was keeping me from experiencing the abundant life He came to give me (John 10:10).

Tonight I can’t promise you that in Christ you’ll have worldly wealth, physical health, or human prosperity. What I can promise is you’ll be forgiven, free, new, and a child of God. I can promise you’ll experience a peace the passes all understanding and an unseachable love.

Long after the wealth and power have faded, Jesus is Lord. Long after the health and prosperity have slipped away, Jesus is Lord. When heaven and earth pass away, Jesus is Lord. Who (or what) is Lord of your life?

Jesus is God

I’m not sure what you’ve heard or what you’ve been taught, but Jesus is God. God didn’t simply send some lesser created being into creation to save you, He left nothing to chance. Jesus this the image of the invisible God, the perfect essence and exact representation of the Father. This means that the God of universe stooped down into time, the Creator entered His creation to do what only God could: save you.

The unchanging nature of God should help us to understand who He is. God’s love is absolute and He has given everything so we could be forgiven and free. When Jesus died on the cross He made a way where there was no way. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and the only way to forgiveness, redemption, and restoration (John 14:6).

My prayer for you and I today is that the truth of God’s love would constantly be at the forefront of our minds and thought. May everything we do be to point others to this great salvation and love. May we remember that if we reject such a great gift of salvation through Jesus that we would all be desperately lost.

God is Our Refuge and Strength

In the midst of deep pain and suffering, God is near (Psalm 34:18). It is here in His presence, in the shadow of His wings, that I find my hope and strength (Psalm 57:1). When I am facing heartbreak or suffering I can find rest in the presence of Jesus (Matthew 11:28).

I wish I could tell you I’ve always been faithful in the midst of deep suffering and trails. I wish I could say I’ve never denied my Lord in the deepest despair and pain. I wish I could say that when God has appeared silent and detached that I remained steadfast and faithful. The truth is… even when I have been unfaithful, Jesus has remained faithful. If you are suffering today, come to Jesus for rest (Matthew 11:28). Here in the presence of God you will find mercy and grace to help in your most desperate time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

My prayer for you and I today is that we would find hope in the unchanging nature of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 13:8). Although life and circumstances change, Jesus never will. Although those we love my fail us or forsake us, Jesus never will. Even when the pain and the hurt just don’t make sense, trust in the faithful, unfailing love of the God who gave everything so you could be forgiven and free.
